Easter is a Christian Festival that celebrates the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. On the third day after Good Friday, the day of his crucifixion, now called Easter Sunday, He rose from the dead. Mourners went to His tomb to collect His body. However, He was not there and they were greeted by an angel who said

"He is Risen".

St. Patrick's Day is an Irish holiday celebrated all around the globe to honor the patron saint of Ireland, Saint Patrick. Saint Patrick's Day is celebrated each year on March 17th.

It is believed that he died on March 17 in the year 461 AD. It is also a worldwide celebration of Irish culture and history. St. Patrick’s Day is a national holiday in Ireland.

In Ireland on St. Patrick’s Day, people traditionally wear a small bunch of shamrocks on their jackets or caps. Children wear orange, white and green badges, and women and girls wear green ribbons in their hair.

Many cities have a St. Patrick’s Day parade. Dublin, the capital of Ireland, has a huge St. Patrick’s Day festival from March 15-19, that features a parade, family carnivals, treasure hunt, dance, theatre and more. In North American, parades are often held on the Sunday before March 17. Some paint the yellow street lines green for the day! In Chicago, the Chicago River is dyed green with a special dye that only lasts a few hours.

Como ya os he explicado en clase, l@s alumn@s de tercer ciclo de primaria tienen la posibilidad de participar en campamentos de Inmersión Lingüística.

Los Campamentos de Inmersión Lingüística se desarrollarán en Andalucía, en las
Instalaciones Juveniles, dependientes de la Empresa Pública INTURJOVEN que se
determinarán mediante Resolución de la convocatoria. Se ofertan un total de 1.600 plazas

del idioma inglés, con la siguiente distribución de turnos:

1.er turno: del 20 al 25 de junio de 2010. Número de plazas 400.
2.º turno del 27 de junio al 2 de julio de 2010. Número de plazas 400.
3.er turno del 4 al 9 de julio del 2010. Número de plazas 400.
4.º turno del 11 al 16 de julio de 2010. Número de plazas 400.
Igualmente, se ofertarán un total de 200 plazas del idioma francés, con la
siguiente distribución de turnos:

Thanksgiving is America's preeminent day. It is celebrated every year on the fourth Thursday in the month of November. It has a very interesting history. Its origin can be traced back to the 16th century when the first thanksgiving dinner is said to have taken place.

Journey of Pilgrims

The legendary pilgrims, crossed the Atlantic in the year 1620 in Mayflower-A 17th Century sailing vessel. About 102 people traveled for nearly two months with extreme difficulty. This was so because they were kept in the cargo space of the sailing vessel. No one was allowed to go on the deck due to terrible storms. The pilgrims comforted themselves by singing Psalms- a sacred song. The Pilgrims reach Plymouth rock on December 11 th 1620

First Thanksgiving Feast

It is said that Pilgrims learnt to grow corn, beans and pumpkins from the Indians, which helped all of them survive . In the autumn of 1621, they held a grand celebration where 90 people were invited including Indians. The grand feast was organized to thank god for his favors. This communal dinner is popularly known as “The first thanksgiving feast”. There is however, no evidence to prove if the dinner actually took place.

Family feast is an important tradition during Thanksgiving. The entire family sits at the table during dinner.
The traditional stuffed turkey adorns every dinner table during the feast. Pumpkin pie, Cranberry sauce, Corns are some of the dishes cooked everywhere to mark the day. It is also a tradition to see the thanksgiving day parade and also NFL football game between Detroit Lions and the Green Bay Packers

Four hundred years ago, in 1605, a man called Guy Fawkes and a group of plotters attempted to blow up the Houses of Parliament in London with barrels of gunpowder placed in the basement. They wanted to kill King James and the king’s leaders.

Hace 400 años, en 1605, un hombre llamado Guy Fawkes y un grupo de conspiradores intentaron volar el Parlamento en Londres con barriles de pólvora colocados en el sótano. Querían asesinar al rey James y a sus líderes.

Why did Guy Fawkes want to kill King James 1st and the king’s leaders? ¿Por qué quería Guy Fawkes matar al rey James 1º y a sus hombres?

When Queen Elisabeth 1st took the throne of England she made some laws against the Roman Catholics. Guy Fawkes was one of a small group of Catholics who felt that the government was treating Roman Catholics unfairly. They hoped that King James 1st would change the laws, but he didn't.

Cuando la reina Elisabeth 1ª ascendió al trono de Inglaterra aprobó algunas leyes contra los Católicos (debéis saber que en Inglaterra la Iglesia mayoritaria no era la Católica, sino la Anglicana). Guy Fawkes pertenecía a un pequeño grupo de católicos que sentía que el gobierno les trataba injustamente. Esperaban que con el ascenso de James 1º se cambiasen las leyes, pero éste no lo hizo

Catholics had to practise their religion in secret. There were even fines for people who didn't attend the Protestant church on Sunday or on holy days. James lst passed more laws against the Catholics when he became king.

Los Católicos tenían que practicar su religión en secreto. Incluso había multas para aquellos que no acudiesen a la Iglesia Protestante los domingos o en días festivos. James 1º aprobó incluso más leyes contra los católicos cuando se convirtió en rey

A group of men led by Robert Catesby, plotted to kill King James and blow up the Houses of Parliament, the place where the laws that governed England were made.

Un grupo de hombres liderados por Robert Catesby, conspiraron para asesinar al rey y volar el Parlamento, que era el lugar donde se aprobaban las leyes de Inglaterra

The plot was simple - the next time Parliament was opened by King James l, they would blow up everyone there with gunpowder. The men bought a house next door to the parliament building. The house had a cellar which went under the parliament building. They planned to put gunpowder under the house and blow up parliament and the king.

El complot era simple: la siguiente vez que el rey abriese la sesión del Parlamento, volarían a todo el que estuviese allí con pólvora. Los conspiradores compraron una casa al lado del Parlamento. Esta casa tenía una bodega situada bajo el edificio del Parlamento. Planearon poner pólvora bajo la casa y que volase tanto al Parlamento como al rey

Guy Fawkes was given the job to keep watch over the barrels of gunpowder and to light the fuse. On the morning of 5^th November, soldiers discovered Guy hidden in the cellar and arrested him.

A Guy Fawkes le asignaron la tarea de vigilar los barriles de pólvora y encender la mecha. La mañana del 5 de Noviembre, los soldados descubrieron a Guy escondido en la bodega y lo arrestaron.

Guy Fawkes was taken to the Towe of London

He was tortured and questioned about the other plotters. To start with he didn't tell the soldiers anything about the plot. But, eventually he started to tell the truth.

Guy Fawkes fue llevado a la Torre de Londres. Allí le torturaron y le preguntaron acerca de los demás conspiradores. Al principio no dijo nada sobre el complot, pero finalmente empezó a contar la verdad.

In celebration of his survival, King James ordered that the people of England should have a great bonfire on the night on 5^th November. The event is still commemorated annually in England on 5^th November by fireworks and burning 'guys'(effigies) on bonfires.

Para celebrar que había sobrevivido, el rey James ordenó que el pueblo de Inglaterra debería encender una gran hoguera la noche del 5 de Noviembre. el evento se sigue conmemorando en Inglaterra cada año el 5 de Noviembre con fuegos artificiales y la quema de monigotes representando a Guy Fawkes
